Unfold a map of China and you will spot Ningbo, a beautiful port city at the southern tip of Yangtse Delta in the middle of China’s eastern coastline. Yinzhou District, a richly endowed area of 1,380 square kilometers, surrounds Ningbo City proper on the East, West and South. As a matter of fact, Ningbo city proper used to be the seat of Yinzhou county in history.
Lying in the south of Yangtse River, Yinzhou county,has long enjoyed a prestigious reputation because of its long history dating back to the Emperor Yingzheng(259B.C.--210 B.C.)and rich culture with Chinese characteristics of more than 2,200 years. Facing the sea and surrounding the town seat, the unique geographic location leads to an open--minded regional culture in the people of Yinzhou. Here started the beautiful folktale of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai(The Butterfly Lovers); here began the marine silk road; also here Mr. Wang Anshi (1021-1086) carried out his political ambitions; here the well-known Ningbo Group of Tradesmen were born. In a word, here is the place with a fine tradition of more than 1,000 years which shows great respect for commerce and education, and no wonder it is called the cradle of poets and businessmen.
Yinzhou is also a prestigious modern new district full of vigor and vitality. Since the reform and opening to the outside world, especially after its change from a county to a district in 2002, Yinzhou has been promoting development through the opening-up policy. The overall strength is enhanced by focusing on industry and Yinzhou is getting more and more charming because of environmental protection. More important, the cohesion of the people is enhanced as a result of our effort to build a harmonious society. It is now a center of talents, commodities, capital, technology and information, ranking the first in Ningbo city, the third in Zhejiang Province and the 11th in China in terms of comprehensive strength.
